Omochi~! - Lucky * Star

From the first episode, with the 10 minute talk about food, you’ll immediately notice this is no ordinary slice-of-life anime series. This special “structure” has turned Lucky * Star into a hit-or-miss among the audience. I, personally, loved this show for its lovable cast, light comedy, anime/manga/videogame references and for the “oh, this has happened to me IRL” factor.

By the way, I actually find it quite interesting how the haters usually call this show a “weekly thirty minutes of Haruhi advertisements”. Oh, excuse me, but if there were so many Haruhi references, I’d have dropped this show pretty soon since, in fact, I watched this melancholic series some weeks after LS ended. And not because Konata told me to do so or anything like that… I just couldn’t bring myself to keep avoiding this popular anime when it was still so commented on forums and stuff. Also, these references felt more like they were used to add some popularity to THIS show rather than incresasing Haruhi’s one.

</rant> Well, anyways, another aspect I liked from LS was that each week you would get new episodes with lots of distinctive content that made them feel pretty unique. For example, some weeks we would get the hilarious scenes with the hot-blooded salesmen, while othes had the kinda light-hearted moments (like Kanata’s visit in ep. 22) that managed to heighten the attachment we had to the lovely characters.

Overall, I consider Lucky * Star the best comedy show of the year. I hope KyoAni manages to come up with a second season sometime in the future… since I’m ready to see more meaningless conversations between the awesome-female-otaku Konata, the equally-awesome-tsundere Kagami, the clumsy-yet-cute Tsukasa and the useless-fourth-character Miyuki.
